Winter Garden's Holiday Season Has a Ticketed Half and a Free Half. The Free Half Runs on Weekends.

On the Friday before Thanksgiving, decorated trees and wreaths will fill Heller Hall at 21 E. Plant Street, with live entertainment, signature drinks and small plates. Two weeks later, a few blocks west, City Hall's front facade lights up with an animated show set to music, free to anyone on the sidewalk.

Both events fall within the same downtown holiday season, but two different organizations run them, on different terms. November belongs to the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, and its events need tickets. December belongs to the City of Winter Garden, and its outdoor events are free. Nearly all of them land on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Once you know that pattern, the next eight weeks are easier to plan.

November is the Heritage Foundation's month, and it sells tickets

The foundation calls its series Hometown Holidays: A Winter Garden Heritage Foundation Celebration of Peace and Joy. AdventHealth is the presenting sponsor, and all three events fall on November weekends.

Date Event Venue Listed price
Fri., Nov. 20, 5:30–8:30 p.m. Oranges & Ornaments: A Festival of Trees Heller Hall, 21 E. Plant St. $39.19 on Eventbrite
Sat., Nov. 21, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Brunch Among the Trees Heller Hall, 21 E. Plant St. $55.20 on Eventbrite
Sat., Nov. 28, 7 p.m. A Holiday Spectacular Garden Theatre on Plant, 160 W. Plant St. VIP Premium Plus at $99

This is the second year for Oranges & Ornaments. Community groups create the trees and wreaths on display, and the event supports the foundation's work preserving and sharing West Orange County history. On the Eventbrite listing, the themed trees and wreaths are for sale, so you can take one home.

The next morning, the trees stay up for a second event. Brunch Among the Trees brings a brunch catered by Cathy Brady Catering, festive drinks, live entertainment and a custom candy bar. Proceeds go to the foundation's preservation and heritage mission.

The third event falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. A Holiday Spectacular at Garden Theatre on Plant features Opera Orlando, the Orlando Choral Society and the Winter Garden Community Choir, with guest artists Dr. Jeffery Redding and Gabriel Preisser and pianists Julian Bond and Carol Stein. The VIP Premium Plus ticket on TeachTix costs $99 and comes with exclusive seating and a meet-and-greet with the cast after the show. If out-of-town family is staying through the long weekend, that Saturday night is when to take them.

Ticket sales raise money for a local nonprofit, so the November events cost money and have limited capacity. The foundation's events run on two weekends and then stop. The city's season starts the next weekend.

December belongs to the city, and its outdoor events are free

Light Up Winter Garden on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., opens what the city calls its 31 days of 'Tis the Season. The tree lighting comes with live holiday entertainment, a light show, a children's snow play area and sled hill, and vendors.

The city's outdoor events are free, and very few of them happen on a weeknight. The city's December 2026 calendar shows the pattern clearly.

Saturday, Dec. 5 is the busiest day of the season

Five downtown events share one Saturday:

  1. 8 a.m.–1 p.m. Winter Garden Farmers Market at the Downtown Pavilion, 104 S. Lakeview Avenue, at the corner of Tremaine Street.
  2. 10–11 a.m. Winter Garden Christmas Parade, starting at South Dillard Street and West Plant Street, with floats, community groups and Santa.
  3. 4–8 p.m. Holiday Night Market at the Downtown Interactive Fountain & Pavilion, with gifts, sweets, trolley rides, visits with Santa and free family activities.
  4. 6–7 p.m. Winter Garden Christmas Golf Cart Parade along West Plant Street.
  5. 6–9 p.m. A Merry Winter Garden Light Show on City Hall, 300 W. Plant Street.

The city's own listing says the Night Market is timed to line up with the golf cart parade. That leaves the open stretch in the afternoon, between the Farmers Market's 1 p.m. close and the Night Market's 4 p.m. start.

The light show runs Friday through Sunday nights only

The city describes the City Hall display as 11 nights of holiday magic. Light Up Winter Garden on Dec. 4 includes a light show in its program. After that, each calendar entry for the show runs from 6 to 9 p.m.:

Weekend Show nights
Dec. 4–6 Fri. at Light Up, Sat. Dec. 5, Sun. Dec. 6
Dec. 11–13 Fri., Sat., Sun.
Dec. 18–20 Fri., Sat., Sun.
Dec. 26–27 Sat., Sun.

Christmas falls on a Friday this year, and the calendar lists no show that night. The final weekend picks up on Saturday the 26th. A weeknight drive downtown to see the show will find City Hall dark, so check the city calendar for the exact night before heading out.

The rest of December fills the same weekends

The city's other dated events follow the same Friday-to-Sunday rhythm. Holiday Fridays on the Plaza brings the Dickens Carolers on Dec. 11 and the Mistletones on Dec. 18, both from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Centennial Plaza Gazebo. The "Jolly Fellow" visits the Saturday Farmers Market on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19, during regular market hours of 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

That means the second and third weekends of December follow the same template. Carolers on the plaza Friday night, Santa at the market Saturday morning, and the light show Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. With young kids, one of those weekends gets you most of the season without the Dec. 5 crowds.

The exceptions are indoors, at Garden Theatre on Plant. It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play has a Thursday-evening performance on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and a Saturday matinee on Dec. 19 at 2 p.m. The matinee ends at 4:30 p.m., an hour and a half before the light show starts, which makes Dec. 19 an easy afternoon-into-evening downtown.

The city's $5 Holiday Flix at the Garden fills the weeknights the outdoor calendar leaves empty. Every screening falls on a Tuesday: It's A Wonderful Life on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., Elf on Dec. 22 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and on Dec. 29, How the Grinch Stole Christmas at 10 a.m. and Christmas with the Kranks at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 plus a fee, and tickets are sold online only.

Plant Street before the crowds arrive

The holiday weekends bring the year's heaviest foot traffic to the blocks between the theater and City Hall. A few of those storefronts are changing hands.

The West Orange Times & Observer reported in October that The Willow, an upscale sit-down restaurant, has signed a lease for the 1,860-square-foot space at 46 W. Plant St., where Driftwood Market used to be. The space sits between AJ's Pizza Joint and Way Chocolate & Coffee. Business owner Ryan Melnik and Chef Denis Ramos, who is also behind Soulshi Lounge, are partnering on the concept. The Orlando Business Journal reported that the opening was targeted for early 2027.

At the east end, the Observer also reported in September that Parlor Doughnuts is planned for 160 E. Plant St. Don't confuse it with 160 W. Plant St., Garden Theatre's address. The two are on opposite ends of the same street.

MoonCricket Grille closed its downtown location in August after 23 years, as owner Bert Valdes retired. If dinner there before the parade used to be part of your holiday routine, plan on somewhere new this year.

The tickets for Nov. 20, 21 and 28 are on sale through the Heritage Foundation's Hometown Holidays page, and the city's free outdoor events start at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.
